Whilst your GP surgery is often the first port of call when help is needed, there are many other local services that able to help you directly.

Minor Injuries Unit at Altrincham General Hospital

For minor injuries that do not need A&E attendance, visit or ring Altrincham General Minor Injuries Unit on 0161 413 7705.  Opening hours Monday – Friday, 8am – 8pm and now 10am – 6pm Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays, with last check-in 30 minutes before closing time, for:

  • Burns
  • Scalds
  • Cuts
  • Sprains
  • x-ray shoulders, arms, knees & below within 4 weeks of injury
  • x-ray for foreign bodies in wounds

but please note, they cannot

  • x-ray children aged under 4
  • x-ray hips, chests or skulls
  • x-ray more than 4 weeks after injury

Out-of-hours services are generally busy so please think carefully before asking to see a doctor and only do so if you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.

In a genuine emergency you should call 999. Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.

Help & advice for younger children

You can contact the Health Visiting Team at Chapel Road clinic: 0161 912 5130 for advice about all child health and welfare matters, including specialist advice on weaning, sleep problems and eczema.

The Childrens Community Nurses work in the community with the aim of providing care to your child in your own home, often following a hospital admission or A&E attendance.  They are based at Altrincham General Hospital on 0161 934 8333 and you can contact them directly for advice and management about:

  • Constipation, toileting or bed wetting
  • General asthma advice
  • Eczema management

Help & advice for teenagers

A number of agencies provide specialist advice for teenagers and their parents. You can find links helping with drug & alcohol issues, mental health concerns, contraception & sexual health and sexual health services.

Sexual Health matters

If you’re worried you may have picked up a sexually transmitted infection or would like a full check-up for reassurance. This is a complete and confidential service. They offer confidential HIV testing too. Please ring to book an appointment or if you’re under 25 some services are drop-in.

Treatment Room Nurses at Firsway Health Centre, Sale

The treatment room nurses originally located at Chapel Road, are now at Firsway Health Centre, M33 4BR.  Appointments can be made by ringing 0300 323 0303 option 1, for:

  • Wound care & dressings
  • Removal of stitches, clips or sutures following surgery or injury
  • B12 injections

If these services are needed but you are housebound, then please ring 0300 323 0303 option 2 for the District Nursing service.

Ear care service at Meadway Health Centre

For ear wax problems that despite regular use of warm olive oil, still require treatment, please book an appointment with the ear care service at Meadway Health Centre, M33 4PP on 0300 323 0303 option 5, for ear assessment and possible syringing or microsuction.  Find more information available here.
